As she slowly begins to realize the error of her ways her journey of self-improvement comes to a screeching halt when she becomes involved with Josh – the pretentious, Nietzsche reading, college-aged loser who hangs around his ex-step father’s house hitting on high school girls.

On the teachers inviting all the students to the wedding: teachers don't make much money. Not even at schools for the very privileged. My guess would be that Cher got the student body involved in setting up the wedding--that wedding dress was an expensive designer piece. It might also be somewhat savvy on the gift end of things if they are mercenary.
